Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Health insurance comparisons are quite complicated. We would be happy to answer the following questions for you. If anything is unclear, please feel free to contact us.

1. How do I change my health insurance?

You can cancel your previous health insurance policy by sending an unofficial letter until November 30th. During the year, only policyholders with a normal deductible can cancel in standard mode. You can change your health insurance company on July 1st. To do this, you must give notice by March 31 at the latest. During this period, the time of receipt of the cancellation by the insurer applies in any case. The postmark itself is not meaningful.

2. Where does the premium data come from?

Official data from the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) is used to compare the calculations in the calculator. BAG publishes this data on its website.

3. Are certain health insurance companies preferred?

No, not with us! We are an independent financial service provider. This means that we work with all insurance companies and can therefore filter out the best offer.

4. When can I change the insurance model?

Beginning January 1, franchises can be reduced to the maximum of regular franchises or increased to discretionary franchises. This applies to any started or planned treatment of the disease. According to § 94 KVV, the deadline of November 30th after the announcement of the new premium on January 1st must be observed, especially in the case of price reductions. This also applies to changing insurance models. § 100 KVV sets November 30 as the legal deadline.

5. What are deductibles and deductibles?

In addition to the premiums, the insured also bears the costs for the doctor, hospital and medication. The cost sharing consists of a fixed annual amount (called deductible) and an additional deductible of 10%. As an insured, you pay for the medical services you receive, up to the deductible you choose. As part of the regular deductible, you have to pay up to 300 francs yourself (children and young people are exempt from this fee). However, in order to reduce the premium, the deductible can be increased to CHF 2,500. A deductible of up to CHF 600 can be agreed for children and young people. In addition, the deductible is due. After deducting the regular deductible, this corresponds to 10% of the costs, up to a maximum of 700 francs or 350 francs for under-18s.

6. How can I save on basic insurance?

By choosing other insurance models and higher deductibles, the premiums for basic insurance can sometimes be significantly reduced. Alternative insurance models such as HMO, GP, Telmed or other models can save up to 25% in premiums. Which models you can use depends on the respective health insurance company. If you choose a higher deductible, you pay more in the event of illness and/or an accident. On the other hand, you can save up to 30% on your premium. In addition to the regular deductibles, the health insurance companies offer the following additional deductibles free of charge:

Children (up to 18 years)
  • CHF 100
  • CHF 200
  • CHF 300
  • CHF 400
  • CHF 500
  • CHF 600
Adults (from 19 years)
  • CHF 500
  • CHF 1000
  • CHF 1500
  • CHF 2000
  • CHF 2500
7. Which health insurance models are there?

Most health insurance companies also offer additional health insurance models in addition to the standard models. The family doctor model, the HMO model and the Telmed are common. With these models, the customer is obliged, except in emergencies, to first consult the family doctor or HMO practice.

8. What is the difference between basic and supplementary insurance?

Basic insurance is mandatory and can be changed regardless of age and health. The basic insurance benefits are defined in the Health Insurance Act (KVG) and are the same for all providers. You can take out supplementary insurance to close the gap in coverage. Insurance companies are not required to be recognized. Health insurance companies can make reservations and even refuse admission.
